• Retake Picture Day is 12/12/2023! If you're satisfied with your child's picture, no further action is required.  If you purchased and were unhappy with your Picture Package, please send your Picture Package to school with your student on Retake Day. Your Retake Picture Package will be produced and shipped to the school four weeks after Retake Day. Please note, if your child is photographed on the original and Retake Picture Days, the Retake picture will replace the original picture in certain products, like the yearbook.  Students who were absent for Picture Day should come to school prepared to have their picture taken. • Prom is April 20, 2024 at USI in Carter Hall 8:00-11:00 pm

• The Student Council is organizing an ALL IN for Christmas project that provides Christmas gifts for students in our community that may not otherwise receive gifts. They are hosting an ALL IN toy drive to ask for items that were specifically requested. Some of those items include: Soft blankets & pillows, Hairbrushes, Lotion, Deodorant, Shampoo & conditioner, Body wash, Squishmallows, LED lights, Lays chips, Crafts, Diamond art puzzles, Legos, Paint & paint brushes,Fidget toys, Bubble gum, Takis, Chocolate, Hair clips. If you donate one of the requested items, your name will be entered into a drawing for 1 of 2 gift cards. Items will be accepted through November 21, and can be brought to Ms. Block's room (B111).

In a tribute to the memory of John Haynes, BWXT has generously donated $25,000 to Mount Vernon High School's welding program. John Haynes and General Manager, Nate Foote, have played pivotal roles in establishing this program at the high school, which is staffed by BWXT employees and offers students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on welding experience. With the help of BWXT employees, the program offers students an exceptional opportunity to develop valuable welding skills and gain real-world experience. The curriculum covers a wide range of welding techniques, safety protocols, and industry standards, ensuring that students receive comprehensive training.

The program stands out with its direct link to BWXT, offering a clear pathway for students to transition from the classroom to a career. This unique collaboration between the high school and a prominent industry player like BWXT not only prepares students for the workforce but also addresses the growing demand for skilled welders in the manufacturing sector.

BWXT's donation of $25,000 to Mount Vernon High School's welding program is a powerful testament to their commitment to education and the improvement of the community. This generous contribution will have a profound impact on the program, allowing it to invest in state-of-the-art welding equipment, safety gear, and additional educational resources.

Friday, November 3, 2023 - Gray Day

STUDENTS:

• The Art Guild will meet during the Reading Period today/Friday to discuss Art Camp. All Art Guild members are encouraged to attend. 
• NHS will hold its monthly membership meeting on Thursday November 9th at 7:30 am sharp in the media center.

• Picture Retake Day: December 12th starting at 10:00 am

• Girls Basketball opener tonight.  We will be holding a canned food drive to give back to our community.  All donations will go to the local food pantry.  At the gate, we will be offering $1 off of the ticket price for each can donated.
• MVHS will be hosting a blood drive today. You may sign up to give using the google form link that will be emailed to you. 

To give blood you must:

• Be in good general health and feeling well
• Be at least 17-years-old, or 16-years-old with parental consent 
• Weigh at least 110 lbs.

• Prom is April 20, 2024 at USI in Carter Hall 8:00-11:00 pm

• The Student Council is organizing an ALL IN for Christmas project that provides Christmas gifts for students in our community that may not otherwise receive gifts. They are hosting an ALL IN toy drive to ask for items that were specifically requested. Some of those items include: Soft blankets & pillows, Hairbrushes, Lotion, Deodorant, Shampoo & conditioner, Body wash, Squishmallows, LED lights, Lays chips, Crafts, Diamond art puzzles, Legos, Paint & paint brushes,Fidget toys, Bubble gum, Takis, Chocolate, Hair clips. If you donate one of the requested items, your name will be entered into a drawing for 1 of 2 gift cards. Items will be accepted through November 21, and can be brought to Ms. Block's room (B111). 

• The Weight Room will be open after school every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:15 to 4:15. The first open weight room will be this upcoming Thursday, November 2nd. You MUST have a current physical on file to be allowed to lift.

STUDENTS:

• Any student going to Sabic All-In Friday please get your permission slips turned in by 8am tomorrow.. Also, those students attending will have a meeting in the Athletic Office tomorrow at 11:05am. 

• Thespian Club members there will be a meeting during reading period on Friday, Nov. 3rd.
